Seeing Derek Mainella’s art work as a student exhibitor for the first time at the Summer 2004 Toronto Outdoor Art Exhbition in Nathan Phillips Square was quite a revelation. The colors just burst out at you. Here is an analysis:
The colors have a wide spectrum but also tonal range that catch the eye. It is as if a Monet or Degas impressionist palette had spilled all over the canvas in burst of joyous hues. Derek currently works as portrait artist, curator and man of a thousand artistic hats in the Toronto art scene.
